On November 6, 1983, a new Lutheran congregation was officially organized in St. Joseph, Minnesota. It was given the name, Resurrection, as a sign of the new life we know in Christ. There were 62 families who were part of the congregation that day. Some had come from other local churches; others had come from other denominations; and there were others who had not been part of a congregation before Resurrection. They began this congregation with the hope and prayer that God would bless its ministry and outreach in this community. Today, we give thanks that God is continuing to answer that prayer.
We recognize that God’s faithfulness is at the heart of Resurrection’s life. We know that God has used people to carry out God’s work in this place. For the past two decades, there have been people whose faithful commitment to Christ and deep love for the church have led them to support Resurrection Lutheran Church. We praise God and give thanks to them for their willingness to give of their time, abilities and money to make the ministry of this congregation possible.
As we celebrate the first 25years of Resurrection, as well as the people who have had an important role in its work, we also realize that you and I are the ones God is using to carry on the mission of our congregation. It is our faith, our talents, our time, our service, our wealth that God will use to proclaim the good news of Jesus to those around us. It is my prayer that when Resurrection celebrates a 50th or even 100th anniversary in the years to come, the members of the congregation in that day may give thanks for our faithfulness, even as we are grateful for those who have served before us.
