Council Minutes
January 14, 2010
Present: Pastor Dwaine Bruns, Sue Curtis, Karen Bobeldyk, Rachel Kuebelbeck, Pastor Linda Lagergren, Bob Pederson Steve Streng, Jeanie Wilkens, Wilbur Wilkens.
Call to order by Jeanie Wilkens: 6:30 PM.
Devotions: Bob
Approval of December: motion, seconded, approved.
Committee reports:
Outreach: gifts were distributed to college students. Pastor Linda will be scheduling monthly meetings with college students.
Christian Education: an average of 30 students attend Sunday school, approximately half as many as there were when the school year began. Aleta will not be coordinating this summer's Bible school.
Church in Society: Will be seeking to partner with the youth committee to fund and participate in this summer's mission trip to People's Church in Bemidji. Received $1000 donation from St. Joseph Y2K and Jaycees; monies were distributed to St. Joseph food shelf, Kenya clinic, People's Church in Bemidji, and social ministry. Special collection for the Kenya clinic totaled $2685; Steve will be providing regular write-up and status report regarding Kenya clinic progress. Ruth Dolven will coordinate and Minnesota Foodshare in March. An adult education speaker will be scheduled for Anna Marie's House in May. Colleen Hollinger-Petters will be researching micro-loan options utilizing Free Trade Coffee proceeds.
Great River Interfaith Partnership (GRIP): 2010 goals include building deeper relationships between congregations and cultural communities; identifying public policies and practices causing increasing inequities; deepening understanding regarding stakes in choosing to be active; identifying common concern to unite in building a community reflecting faith values.
Habitat for Humanity 20th Anniversary: scheduled for Saturday, February 6. Community members are invited to attend afternoon sessions to learn about various projects; evening event will include an awards ceremony.
Property: new water software has been installed. Ceiling tiles in the Fellowship Hall have been stapled and fastened.
Worship & Music: a 5:00 and 6:30 p.m. service is scheduled for February 17 Ash Wednesday. Lent services will be scheduled on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.; soup and bread suppers will be included. The committee is considering a puppet show during services.
Youth: a water park activity is scheduled for January 24 in Becker, congregational members are invited. Annual dinner and variety show is scheduled for February 28; committee members will be performing 2 to 3-minute skits. “Send a Child to Camp” day is scheduled for February 7. Motion, seconded and approved a February 7 special offering for camp scholarships.
Youth mission trip is scheduled July 25-July 31 at People's Church in Bemidji; the mission trip is open to all congregational members. There will be camping in the church yard. People's Church is in need of TLC carebags including soap, razors, toothbrushes, etc. Lunch and dinner will be provided. There will be a Vacation Bible School for approximately 20 children. Teams will be formed to work on homes in the community.
Youth dinner fund-raising activity will be scheduled once a month at the St. Joseph
Legion; the first dinner is scheduled January 29.

Growth in faith/leadership activity - Pastor Dwaine. Discussed Congregational Annual Meeting scheduled for January 24. Facilitated a discussion looking back at the last decade at Resurrection and perspectives on what lies ahead the next 10 years.
Old Business
Reviewed agenda for January 24 Congregational annual meeting. Council members will provide desserts and main dishes.
Motion, seconded and approved $287,026 spending plan for 2010.
Building Fund Appeal: current building debt is $32,000. Discussed church repairs and refurbishing, addressing the debt, and preliminary planning for future church expansion.
New Business
Congregational members will be solicited at the January 24 annual meeting to form a building expansion task force scheduled to begin in March.
Southwest Minnesota Synod assembly scheduled for April 17 and 18th at Redwood Falls; Resurrection can submit three delegates.
Great River Conference Spring gathering scheduled for February 7 at St. Cloud University Lutheran; Resurrection can submit 6-voting members.
Motion, Seconded and Approved special offerings during the next two Sundays for Lutheran Disaster Relief designated for Haiti.
