Worship and Music Committee Annual Report for 2009
Our goal is to provide for meaningful worship experiences that include Word, Prayer, Communion and Music. Other responsibilities include changing paraments, decorating for seasons and festivals, scheduling volunteers to provide communion bread, and providing support for Choir Directors, Worship Coordinators, Acolytes, Worship Hosts Committee and Nursery.
Sunday worship at 8:30 offers a more traditional or blended service while Sunday worship at 11:00 and Wednesday evening worship offers a printed contemporary service. “The Voice of God” drama series and puppets were used during the Lenten season as well as the Holden Evening Prayer Service. Healing Services are held quarterly following the Sunday services. On November 15th the Dakota Road Band led worship and presented a concert between services. Many members attended the Thanksgiving Eve worship and pie social.
The annual youth musical was performed on May 31st and was a joyful addition to our worship. We are grateful to Jeanne Bruns and Kathy Kuebelbeck for their dedication to this project.
In response to the Vision Task Force Mission Plan, we addressed two of the priorities in 2009. One priority was to address the increased growth in the congregation. A 3rd Service Task Force developed a plan for adding a 3rd service and we began Worship on Wednesday (WOW) in September. WOW Worship which includes a meal, education time for children and adults, 45 minute worship, and nursery has been well attended and a great addition to Resurrection’s worship life. Another priority was to grow faithful disciples and become a Book of Faith congregation. Bibles were ordered with the generous contributions from members, then placed in the sanctuary and have been used during worship services since Lent.
We are blessed to have received many varied contributions from our members. We began using oil candles in the candelabras on Christmas Eve. Worship Hosts provide duties for worship services each week and this program is coordinated by Kathy Kuebelbeck and Alison Tran. Our Assisting Ministers are invaluable in helping lead worship services. Choirs perform during the school year and greatly enhance our services. Many people offer their vocal and instrumental gifts for special music and to help lead worship services. Acolytes add a special dignified touch and Deb Robinson continues to lead this program. Volunteers provide communion bread and wine, help decorate the church, and change paraments. We thank you all.
We welcome any new members, and request your support, feedback and prayers as we seek to carry out God’s mission in our worship and music here at Resurrection.
